Lisa Roet has worked with apes as the subject of her drawings, sculpture and video for many years, creatures that are at once our relatives and our dependants, confined in nature reserves, zoos and side shows.
Lisa's giant drawings of an orang-utan's hand, bronze busts of chimpanzees and photographs of the interaction between ape and human-are intimate, compelling and bizarre.
Roet's work is an examination of (self) consciousness, pointing to the close and complex relationships between humans and apes, self and other.
