Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery

Galleria

Further information

Taking inspiration for its name from the etymology of the word ‘gallery’ and from a local suburban shopping centre, Galleria is situated within a centrally located warehouse in East Perth.

There, a number of artists have recently established art studios, a risograph printing press and an arts-oriented graphic/web design business. Working with this idea of shopping complexes, the space plans to develop a number of public projects projects including a conceptual food court, a cineplex and late-night trading events.

As an artist-run initiative (ARI), Galleria aims to build on Perth’s existing gallery models, promote a strong sense of community, and inspire critical dialogue through exhibiting international art while working to create a platform for local artists and curators.

Workshops

In addition to its ongoing exhibition program, Galleria will deliver a series of Saturday risograph printing workshops for the community during HERE&NOW12. For $20/$15 (concession), participants will have the opportunity to experiment with the risograph (essentially a ‘silkscreen photocopier’) to produce affordable print editions and publications.

Sign up for a workshop - places are limited.

Publication launch

The artists and ARI's participating in HERE&NOW12 are developing editions of prints on the risograph as their contribution to the exhibition publication. These, along with new works generated during the workshops, will be part of the HERE&NOW12 publication launch at Galleria on Sunday 6 October.

  • Location: Galleria, 55 Wittenoom Street, East Perth.
  • Opening hours: Thursday 12 – 9pm, Friday – Saturday 12 – 6pm and by appointment.
