Experience the magic of blending pen, ink and paper as you learn the ancient art of Chinese calligraphy. Unravel the mysteries of its four treasures and five fonts, and learn a little about how it all began more than 2500 years ago.

Teacher Yanyu Su was a child when she began studying calligraphy in China. Now an adult, she looks forward to passing on her passion to young people growing up on the other side of the world.

You vote on your favourite team and decide the show’s winner. Songs, sketches and slapstick are all part of the fun. A show of pure delight and unabashed enjoyment. Nature Under The Microscope

Presented by the EdCC Earth Science Museum

What makes a butterfly's wings special? And what are seashells made of? Come see for yourself and get excited about science!

Viewing the natural world under a microscope is a never-ending source of fascination for children and adults alike. Learn to use a binocular microscope to examine nature right up close. Participants will collect material from the University?s gardens to examine under the microscope, as well as be given butterfly wings, minerals and seashells to look at. All children will be given an amethyst crystal to examine and then take home.

Parents/caregivers are welcome to either leave participants or stay for the workshop.

Inspired by Phillipa Nikulinsky’s current exhibition Nikulinsky Naturally, join multidisciplinary artist Joanna Sulkowski to learn how to draw native plants and flowers from life. Using simple line drawing techniques and watercolour paint, Joanna will guide aspiring artists to make their own botanical illustrations. Each student will receive their own watercolour set to take home.

Create your own floral inspired gift card and wrapping paper using cyanotype and collagraph printing. Learn to design and create your own cardboard block to create unique printed wrapping paper. Then use leaves and flowers to make a cyanotype card, a monochrome photographic print to accompany your wrapping paper.

Led by one of Perth's premier young percussionists Jackson Vickery, Discover! Percussion helps budding musicians aged 8-12 years leap into the wonderful world of percussion. This session will allow students to explore a range of tuned and untuned percussion instruments and learn new and exciting beats and rhythms!

These hands-on sessions are suitable for complete beginners, as well as those who have some prior musical experience, such as those who have completed UWA JMS Programs or who have started percussion through their school.

Calling all dinosaur lovers! Come and discover what palaeontologists do in the field as they unearth centuries-old fossils.

Become a junior paleontologist and learn about fossils, handle fossil material and unearth a fossil to take home. In addition to being given a fossil to take home, participants will receive a museum fossil hunt workbook to record their observations.
