Handmade Paper

Come and learn how to turn paper waste into brand new custom paper!

This fun workshop, led by visual artist Deborah Worthy-Collins, will introduce your child to basic paper making skills, while helping out the environment.

Pom-Pom Party!

Get groovy with yarn and recycled fibres and make your own pom-pom accessories to take home.

With textile artist Leah Louise, kids will learn how to make their own fabulous fibrous fluff balls using recycled takeaway containers (not a tricky cardboard donut in sight!), and the process can be easily replicated at home, for hours of cheerful holiday entertainment.

Mini Picture Show

Make your own miniature moving-picture show!

Using recycled and craft materials, you will be guided through the process of making your own DIY crankie. A visual-storytelling device often accompanied by narration and music, crankies, or moving panoramas, were a popular form of entertainment in the 19th century. You will explore basic construction and storytelling techniques to create your own miniature, hand-cranked story to take home.

Making Comics

Learn about the inspiring visual medium of comics with multidisciplinary artist Gabby Loo!

Participants will be guided through the whole process of making a comic, developing the foundational elements of story writing, cartooning and illustration techniques. This workshop has something to offer for young people of all skill levels.

Weaving and Wall Hangings

Join textile artist Leah Louise for a crafty afternoon.

Weaving is a centuries old art form found all over the world, and now you can practice it yourself using cardboard and recycled yarns. Kids will learn to make their own loom, choose colour palettes and weaving their own wall hanging to take home.

Crafting a Concertina Book

Create your own unique concertina book with multidisciplinary artist Gabby Loo.

Participants will design a mixed media book inspired by stories of people, animals and nature. Here they will learn an array of art techniques such as collage, watercolour painting, collage paper cutting and folding.

Puppet Pals

Make your own sock puppet inspired by the creatures around you!

Sock puppets are a wonderful way to engage your imagination and sense of play. For this workshop, you will be guided through the basics of constructing your puppet and have fun developing its unique voice and temperament.

This workshop accompanies the SPRINGarts University Theatres x AWESOME Festival performance of Picasso and His Dog, which explores the special connection between humans and animals.
