We are pleased to announce the Art Writing Prize for 2012.

The prize is open to all UWA students. It is intended to encourage the production of original and creative scholarly responses to works of art presented at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery.

Prize

The winner's essay will be published on the gallery website and they willl receive a cash prize of $500. This initiative provides a great opportunity for students to have their writing published in a critical and publicly engaged setting.

Criteria

Students should submit an essay that addresses one or more artworks or exhibitions presented at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery during the year of the competition.

Submissions should be about 1500 words. 

Entries will be judged according to the following criteria:

• originality of ideas
• quality of writing
• engagement with the artworks / exhibitions
• ability to engage the reader.

Entries must be received at the Gallery no later than 5pm Friday 30 November 2012.

Judging panel

Blind judging of the entries will be performed by a panel of three judges, all of whom have extensive art historical writing experience.
